​NYC Mayor Eric Adams recently made some comments about the “brand” of New York.

He went on to make a jab at Kansas which Kansans did not take lightly.

Opening

• ​Derby Sandwich Bar - 141 E Kay St, Derby (Formerly Sharon’s Place) - Opening in next month or two

Kingdom Building

123 S Market will be getting a makeover soon.

The project, which aims to finish by April 2023, will be the new “Kingdom Building” (formerly the Sterling building) and will consist of apartments, retail and office space.

HobbyTown Wichita

Matt Riggins is expanding his HobbyTown Wichita store from Eastgate Plaza (Kellogg and Rock) to take over 9500 sq ft next to OshKosh B’gosh.

eAviation and Air Taxis

Apparently Textron now has an eAviation (e = electric) division. It also has an air taxi program (started by Bell Helicopter - a Textron company) that is moving to Wichita.

CIVIL

Wichita Firefighters

The City of Wichita just received a $10.2 million federal SAFER Grant to allow them to hire 42 Firefighters.

Affordable Housing

​Hope Community Development Corporation partnered with teh City of Wichita and has purchased over a dozen lots with the goal to build and provide affordable homes for our community.

The first house is being built at 1400 block of North Ash Street and should take a few months to complete.

LOCAL

Local Mural

There is a local mural by Steve Murillo that been in Eaton Place in downtown Wichita since 2001. The Eaton place was built in 1887 as a hotel.

The mural was set to be demolished this past Monday.

Wild Lights Return

If you missed it last year, “Wild Lights” at the Sedgwick County Zoo was an incredible sight to see.

Over 100,000 people stopped by last year to see the “glowing, larger-than-life Asian Lanterns”.

What you need to know:

• $17 for adults, $15 for kids and members
• Family Packs available for $60, $52 for members
• People who buy tickets at the gate will pay $2 more
• It’s open until December 4th between 6-9PM Wednesdays - Sundays

Cessna Stadium Renovation

​Phase 1A and 1B have been approved by the Board of Trustees.

This is the first (and second) step in improving Cessna stadium.

It will cost about $11.8 million.
